Vintage Airplanes – Kodachrome Slides

US Airforce Plane at Essendon Airport

The vintage aircraft Kodachrome slides in this collection are a select few from my father’s and a family friend’s collection. Some were taken in the 1960s, a few in the 1980s and others I’m not sure but most likely the 1960s. The planes include Ansett and TAA – both Australian airlines that no longer exist.

My two favourites in this collection are:

THE BEAST (above)
The US Air Force plane (a Lockheed C-141 Star Lifter) is an impressive beast and I chose this particular shot over others because of the trusty HR Holden and man being somewhat dwarfed by the mammoth monster parked next to them. Note the pink RAAF kangaroo on its nose. This plane was photographed at Essendon Airport in Melbourne.

THE HANGER (below)
An interesting shot because it’s taken from inside the hanger. In the foreground, a father points out something of interest to his young son. In the background, a yellow Shell truck waits, the driver’s silhouette can be seen if you look closely.
